How's it going, Reader? May is gonna be a fantastic month, I'm calling it now! How about we take a moment to look at what's coming up and what we wanna focus on? Making it easier to say yes to what you doA useful question to ask yourself right now is: If someone discovered my website or saw my content today, would they immediately understand what I do and how to work with me? If not, that's a really good place to start. You're already familiar with your work, so it's easy to forget that you need to keep explaining it to those who don't know you so well. Focus on defining who your work is for and what transformation you can provide for them. I've noticed that many people (including me π) are getting more and more fed up of bullsh** and AI slop word salad... Which I'm imagining means that patience is low, and people are more discerning. They'll be more drawn to writing that is specific and easy to understand. (If you need help with this, check out my new brand copy kits). Upcoming Summit (4thβ10th May)The Astonish Yourself Summit is starting today! This is a free, 7-day virtual event for entrepreneurs, all about committing to the bold move you've been putting off for months (or years). There's all sorts of exciting presentations in the lineup, focused on the topic of Doing Big Things. I'm excited for Elizabeth Goddard's presentation "No Wimping Out. No Burning Out." I'm big fans of the hosts Jennie and Meredyth. I mega enjoyed their "Make It Happen" summits in '24 and '25 π 30-Day Reels ChallengeInstaClubHub is running a 30-day Reels challenge. There's a free version, or there's an upgraded version if you join their membership. I was extremely stuck deciding whether or not to join this challenge myself. (I eventually decided not to, you can read about why in my LinkedIn post.) But if you want to grow on Instagram, go give it a shot! Worried about what to focus on...If you've been thinking about your art, your business, your idea, your project, and just wishing someone would tell you the "right" thing to do next... you're not doing anything wrong. The creative process isn't supposed to be linear, it can go in all kinds of directions. Many of them are unexpected. But that can feel very unsettling in a world that loves to glorify linear-ness. You're not doing anything wrong, and there's not one right answer. Keep trying, keep experimenting, enjoy it! What are you getting up to? Let me know π Much love, Damon Find me on: My Website | Instagram | TikTok | LinkedInβ |
Hi! I'm Damon. I help creative businesses share their message online. I also send sporadic newsletters about creative life.
How's it going Reader? Do you ever think about how often we are expected to do things quickly and efficiently? I've been writing blog posts in the creative industry for 4 years. Compared to other types of work, I'd say blog posts (and writing in general) are pretty undervalued. It's frowned upon to be charging loads for them because they're "just blog posts". Despite that, I can never get myself to rush through them for the sake of earning more for my time. I want to put so much care into...
Hey Reader! On Tuesday I talked about my experience with making a new website for myself, realising that there were a LOT of big decisions about branding involved, and getting stuck in with the design aspect of it (read here) Today I'm gonna share about the writing and building aspect. Website building is also copywriting in disguise As I said last time, I started out by playing around with templates in Squarespace. But I quickly got stuck because I still had no idea what I wanted the site to...
How's it going Reader? I recently made a new website for myself, and the building process was actually fairly doable! It was all the preparation beforehand that was difficult af and took aaaaages... Most advice for creatives says to not build your own website, because a designer can do a way better job of it + help you avoid the generic Squarespace Template look. Many of us, however, will choose to do it ourselves anyway. I'm not here to debate whether I recommend doing that or not, because...
